Its Derby Day and we run through all 7 races from Epsom Downs including the most famous flat race in England, The Epsom Derby.
It’s the ultimate dream to breed, train or ride a Derby winner and today those dreams will be made.
Race 1 – World Pool At The tote Handicap
A tricky race to start Derby Day with a slight preference for Patient Dream. He put in a career best effort when last seen in April winning wel at Epsom. Course form is vital, many horses simply can not handle the track. He is stepping up in distance so if he as the stamina he should go close.
Race 2 – Princess Elizabeth Stakes
It would be a surprise to see Statement out of the top 3. She was outclassed in the 1000 Guineas but this is much easier. She was unlucky to not win the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes earlier in the season and a reproduction of that performance can see her win this.
Maamora should be respected, she beat Billesdon Brook last season who won the 1000 Guineas in 2018. She is inconsistent which puts us off tipping her.

Race 3 – Diomed Stakes (Group 3)
Maximal is the one to be with in this race. He gets weight from all of his rivals, is potentially the best horse in the race and has Ryan Moore on board. The distance is the worry, he’s been running over further recently so we will hope to see him positively ridden as if it turns into a sprint the likes of Century Dream who is a top-class miler could be a bit too good.
Race 4 – „Dash“ Handicap
The fastest race in the World, The Epsom Dash is a great spectacle and a great betting race with a full field of 20 runners. Caspian Prince has won this race 3 times with the last of those being in 2017. It would be great to see him win again but his best days are probably behind him.
Recon Mission is our pick. He won over course and distance on his last start and faces similar rivals again in this race.
Race 5 – Epsom Derby
Bolshoi Ballet is the most likely winner but is worth opposing considering the odds. He is the only runner for Aiden O’Brien who has won the race a record 8 times including the last 2 running’s. His runner is unbeaten this season and looked a superstar in the making on his last start.
Should the favourite not win, this can go to Hurricane Lane. He won the Dante Stakes, a key trial for this, is unbeaten in 3 starts and if he continues his progression can claim a 2nd Derby for Godolphin.
Of the outsiders One Ruler could cause a shock. He slightly disappointed in the 2000 Guineas but he was very keen, if he settles better he could cause a shock.

Race 6 – Northern Dancer Handicap
Group One Power was a good 2nd at Ascot last time and can go one better today. He will no doubt make the running and if he’s handed an easy lead will be difficult to pass.
Soto Sizzler would be the each way pick. He finished close to Group One Power and can reverse that form considering he is now better off at the weights. His last run can be ignored, he ran too free and this is much more his sort of track compared to Newmarket.
Race 7 – Cazoo Handicap
A tough race to end the Derby Festival, a 6-furlong handicap but one horse really stands out. Danzeno has been around forever but judged on last season he still retains a lot of ability. If he is fit, he can win at a good price.
The alternative would be Desert Safari who put up a career best when winning at Goodwood last month. He looks high enough in the handicap and might struggle.
