Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Preview

Marsh Novices‘ Chase

Envoi Allen is the one they all have to beat, he has won all of his 11 starts including 2 at the Cheltenham Festival and it would be a surprise if he didn’t continue that winning run.

Should he underperform the one most likely to take advantage is Chantry House. He was 3rd in the Supreme Novices’ last year and bounced back to form impressively last month.

Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle

A difficult race to find the winner, with 22 runners and no clear favourite. Imperial Alcazar brings the best recent form however he might find conditions too quick today.

Our selection is Mrs Milner who prior to falling on her last start had been running well and looks to be nicely handicapped.

Ryanair Chase

This should be a great race with a number of top-class runners. Min won this race last year and rarely runs a bad race. He’s won 7 Grade 1’ and it would not be a shock to see him make that 8 today.

Samcro is 2-2 at the Cheltenham Festival but is yet to reproduce that level of form in his 2 runs this year. He seems a better horse this time of year which puts him into contention and our pick for the race.

Stayers’ Hurdle

Lisnager Oscar was the shock winner of this race last year, whilst it is a much shorter price this time around it would still be a surprise if he was good enough.

Paisley Park is your favourite and is the most obvious winner. He had excuses for his poor performance in the race last year but that really is his only bad run in the past 3 years.

The Storyteller is our selection, he’s ultra-consistent both over fences and hurdles and it would be a big surprise if he wasn’t involved in the finish.

Stake back up to 10€ as a bonus if 2nd to Willie Mullins

Paddy Power Plate Handicap Chase

If The Shunter can win, he’ll win a £100,000 bonus after winning at Kelso earlier in the month, but this is more competitive than any race he’s been in before. He is in great form though, which cannot be said for a lot of the other runners.

The outsider Dead Right should run a better race than his odds suggest. He hasn’t raced since September, suggesting they wanted to keep the horse fresh and on a good handicap mark for this race.

Parnell Properties Mares‘ Novices‘ Hurdle

This is a much more competitive race than it has been in previous years. Hook Up ran a great race finishing 4th but just 7 lengths away from Tuesday’s impressive Supreme Novices’ winner Appreciate It. Any improvement from that run should be good enough to win this.

The other runner worth considering is Telmesomethinggirl who was third last month but the form of that race looks really good, most notably with the winner going on to win the Coral Cup yesterday.

Cheltenham Festival Places on all handicap races

Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase

A competitive race to end day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival.

Shantou Flyer is the oldest horse in the race but has placed at the last 3 Cheltenham Festivals and this looks a slightly easier race than those runs.

Go Another One is very interesting. He hasn’t raced since September, always runs well after a break, has conditions that should suit and can cause a big upset at big odds.
